Steph

Steph has always been passionate about animals and their welfare and was always bringing home stray dogs which her Mum would make her send to the SPCA, so as soon as she finished college she got a job with the Cape Town SPCA!

Over the years she has worked in veterinary hospitals with large and small animals, worked with race horses, volunteered as a horse handler for therapeutic riding organizations, worked and volunteered with several rescue organizations and shelters in various countries.

She started a much needed SPCA on a small Caribbean island, organized spay & neuter clinics to help with the overpopulation of dogs and cats and also did some much needed animal education for the youth in schools and clubs.

She had a break to raise her 3 children and the day the last one went to school she started work in a vet clinic.

A trip to St Lucia in 2016 to help with a spay and neuter clinic resulted in her bringing home a St Lucian street dog.  Bindi came with some challenges which she has worked on with the help of all the instructors at Cowichan Canine and so began this wonderful new career after a job offer in 2016!

She started with the KPA Puppy Start right Course and hasn’t looked back.  With a few more courses under her belt, lots of webinars and attendance at 2 Clicker Expos (who knew there was so much to learn about dog training) she finally took the plunge and is now in the middle of the KPA Professional Dog Trainer Course.

This is a deviation from her passion for rescue, but she is doing it to help owners with their “puppy issues” and in so doing, hoping to prevent as many dogs as she can from ending up in shelters!

What Clients Are Saying:

I sincerely want to thank all the trainers who worked with us on training our newest member of the family, Mila. Actually it was training us but we won't admit to that!! We had the privilege of working with Karen, Jody, Glenda, Bev and Lisbeth in our Foundation Classes. Every trainer took an active role in helping us achieve success. We felt that they were as excited with our small steps towards success as we were! The training program was so well laid out with the book, clickers, backpack and superb teachers that it made it easy to be successful if you were willing to put in the time. It also made it fun! There is a saying "it takes a village or community to raise a child". We think the saying could say "it takes Cowichan Canine to help raise a dog". We are now hoping to continue with agility classes and maybe even try the scent class. Thank you again

I don’t know if you remember Poppy but she was the small terrier that I did private training one on one to help her get over her fear of dogs. Well she is 13 months old now and loves meeting new dogs, she can’t get enough of it. She goes to doggie daycare on Saturdays because I have a long work shift and loves going there so she can play with all the other dogs. Anyways, I thought you would like to hear a good success story!
