Steph

Steph has always been passionate about animals and their welfare and was always bringing home stray dogs which her Mum would make her send to the SPCA, so as soon as she finished college she got a job with the Cape Town SPCA!

Over the years she has worked in veterinary hospitals with large and small animals, worked with race horses, volunteered as a horse handler for therapeutic riding organizations, worked and volunteered with several rescue organizations and shelters in various countries.

She started a much needed SPCA on a small Caribbean island, organized spay & neuter clinics to help with the overpopulation of dogs and cats and also did some much needed animal education for the youth in schools and clubs.

She had a break to raise her 3 children and the day the last one went to school she started work in a vet clinic.

A trip to St Lucia in 2016 to help with a spay and neuter clinic resulted in her bringing home a St Lucian street dog.  Bindi came with some challenges which she has worked on with the help of all the instructors at Cowichan Canine and so began this wonderful new career after a job offer in 2016!

She started with the KPA Puppy Start right Course and hasn’t looked back.  With a few more courses under her belt, lots of webinars and attendance at 2 Clicker Expos (who knew there was so much to learn about dog training) she finally took the plunge and is now in the middle of the KPA Professional Dog Trainer Course.

This is a deviation from her passion for rescue, but she is doing it to help owners with their “puppy issues” and in so doing, hoping to prevent as many dogs as she can from ending up in shelters!

What Clients Are Saying:

Hi Lizbeth, Stephanie and Glenda: Thought you would like to know, we took Dalli to the Duncan market on Saturday morning. She was a perfect lady, walked around with her tail wagging and held high all the time. She was friendly and outgoing to other people, and sniffed other people’s hands and let them pet her when we stopped to talk or purchase things from the different stalls. We then walked over to the Garage for coffee, sat outside and again, she was well behaved, let people pet her and she was actually licking their hands. This was her first outing in a busy people environment as we usually just leave her in the car or at home when we go out shopping. What a difference from a year ago when you first met her. Thank you, thank you! We’ll see you in the fall when we come for the agility courses. (Dalli was adopted a year ago from Mexico, and was fear-aggressive to people coming to the house.)

I just wanted to touch base with you and give a big THANK YOU for your help with Kaiya. Kaiya is such a great dog. My mom and Step-dad came to visit last week, and they got on with Kaiya like gang-busters! She gave a few little grumbles to my step-dad the first evening when he was in the house, and then nothing. One walk and she fell in love with a few more family members. We still plan to continue Kaiya's training as discussed. Matt has worked with her so well that he takes her out into the big fields here and plays fetch with her off leash! I was very impressed.
