Breeder's Perfect Puppy Programme

A PUPPY CLASS PACKAGE FOR RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS

The puppy is 8 weeks old, just gone to his new home. He’s cute, cuddly and fluffy. Everybody loves him, and indulges him. He quickly learns that behaviours like jumping up, barking, biting on hands, running away with old socks, result in that he gets attention, and he’s having a great time engaging his new owners in chase games. Chewing on furniture and other ‘forbidden’ items is also fun and results in attention and sometimes even chase games, too! Perhaps he is also chasing cars or joggers, barking every time the door bell rings, jumping on visitors – or barking incessantly at them – chewing things when home alone, growling at the children, fighting with other dogs, chasing cats…. And as for housetraining....

- Oh dear. A few months down the road, these behaviours are now well established and causing problems. The puppy has become a troublesome teenager.

In the best case scenario, the new owner may be calling you, the breeder, for advice, which at best is difficult to give over the phone.

In the worst case scenario, the new owner may be unwilling, or even embarrassed, to call you and may instead feel it necessary to surrender the puppy without your knowledge. You will never know what happened to your puppy.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!

The solution to this problem lies in teaching the owners from the first day how to socialize and train the new puppy successfully.

Our Breeder’s Perfect Puppy Programme consists of a Litter Stimulus Package for the breeder, and ten days of daily classes for the new owners, starting immediately when the puppies go to their new homes.

This is a highly customized programme for responsible breeders who are serious about the happiness and success of their puppies.

A MATTER OF SURVIVAL

The most common cause of death in dogs under the age of 3 years old is euthanasia for behaviour problems.

In spite of the breeder’s best efforts, having used parent animals with excellent temperaments and made every effort to place the puppies in the best homes, problems can and do develop. Once the puppies go to their new homes, it becomes increasingly difficult for the breeder to influence the puppies’ lives.

Few puppies ever get enough early puppyhood socialization and good quality training. As a consequence, they may grow up to develop “bad” behaviours, fears, reactivity, and other problems – even aggression – causing them to be surrendered, abandoned or even euthanized.

Research has shown that it is important for puppies to receive socialization from a young age – please refer to the AVSAB Position Statement On Puppy Socialization.

The early puppyhood socialization window opens at three (3) weeks of age, and it closes at between 12 to 16 weeks of age. It is vital that new owners learn the importance of early puppyhood socialization, how to implement it safely, and how to carry it through so that your puppies grow up to be happy, confident and well-adjusted dogs.

In our Breeder’s Perfect Puppy Programme, new owners learn how to socialize and train their new puppy FROM THE FIRST DAY, with positive and easy-to-implement methods.

When new owners learn how to do it right from the start,  we have a significantly better chance to minimize the risks of problem behaviours ever developing.

During the first two weeks of new puppy ownership, owners will often have a greater ability and willingness to devote time and effort into training their puppy’s training.

Consider this programme your puppies’ Mental Immunization Package!

LITTER STIMULUS PACKAGE

As soon as the Breeder has registered the litter for the programme, the Instructor will provide a Litter Stimulus Package on loan for the purpose of socialization and training of the puppies from 3 weeks of age, until 8 weeks of age or when they go to their new homes.

CLASSES

This part of the programme consists of 10 days of daily Socialization & Training classes for the new owners and their puppies.

The first day is a 2 hour class in the Breeder’s home on the day that the owners pick up their puppies. This class combines theory and practice, giving the puppies ample time for rest and relaxation.

The following nine 1-hour daily classes will be located at suitable venues, as agreed between the Instructor, the Breeder and the students.

COST OF THE PROGRAMME

$695 flat fee per litter, plus $59.50 per participating puppy for training equipment (collar, harness, handsfree leash, treat pouch and training booklet), plus tax.

CUSTOMIZATION

Please call or email to discuss the individual needs of your litter, as well as any questions or concerns that you may have.

REGISTRATION

The registration package consists of a Breeder’s Registration for the litter, plus an Individual Perfect Puppy Registration for each puppy. Please note that in addition to the puppy's new owner, your veterinarian needs to sign each individual puppy’s registration form to confirm that the puppy is healthy and can participate in this programme.

What Clients Are Saying:

Last week I had to take True to the vet because he had an ear infection. He bounced into the office with me as if he was going to the park, he was friendly with the girls at the front desk. We went in the examination room and he was fine, happily sniffing every square inch of the floor. He was happy to see the vet and even though his ear was sore he didn't do anything when she swabbed it. True didn't enjoy having his anal glands expelled but he didn't struggle or make a peep. I was so proud of him. The vet said she was amazed at how well behaved he was and how he had come such a long way, and she complimented me on my training. Thank you so much for all your help.
